Since 2009 he has held the same seat occupied from 1980 to 1992 by his father Leonard J. Chabert of Cut Off Louisiana and from 1992 to 1996 by his older brother Marty J. Chabert both Democrats. Chabert's mother Viona Lapeyrouse is from Chauvin.
